Pinwheels for Prevention: Raising Awareness in Our Community

Some messages are best shared in a way that invites people to pause, reflect, and take notice. Throughout the month of April, in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Wheaton Junior Woman’s Club partnered with Metropolitan Family Services and CASA DuPage to install two pinwheel gardens in the community.

One garden is located outside the DuPage County Historical Museum in downtown Wheaton, while the other can be found at a Metropolitan Family Services office. Each display features bright blue pinwheels — a national symbol of child abuse prevention and a reminder of the importance of safe, supported childhoods.

A small group of members, along with a couple of our children, came together to set up the displays, placing pinwheels and signage that will remain in place throughout the month. While simple in design, the gardens create a meaningful visual presence — one that encourages awareness and conversation within the community.

We’re grateful to partner with organizations like Metropolitan Family Services and CASA DuPage, whose ongoing work supports children and families in our community.

If you see one of the pinwheel gardens this month, we invite you to take a moment to pause, reflect, and consider the role we can all play in supporting children and families.
