Meet our members

Jacqui: 4-year member
Why did you join? Originally I was looking to become more social in my community. I had lived in Wheaton for quite a few years yet felt my community was limited to our block.

What do you love most about the club? Being involved with a group of women all committed to doing the best they can to support their community and help others, while also having some fun.

What service project do you love the most? Buddy Baseball and serving at Ronald McDonald House. I had a non-verbal brother who used a wheelchair. It would have been so great to do Buddy Baseball with him if we had known about it. Ronald McDonald Houses were also a huge comfort for my family when needed and allowed my mom to stay closer to my brother when he was in the hospital.

What is the most rewarding part about volunteering? An unexpected outcome is that it's really helping me pass on the values of supporting others and community to my own kids. They have been a part of water stations during the Cosley Zoo Run, setting up for our annual fundraiser and of course Buddy Baseball. One of my daughters has started enjoying volunteering so much she is a regular teen volunteer at the library.

Favorite club social event? Trivia night!

What is your advice for new members? Dive in! We were all new members once and there are a ton of things we don't realize that might not make sense. Ask questions and if something is of interest to you, go for it! There are no silly questions!
